http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, commencing at Antigua on Wednesday, July 25.
“I was away from the game for a little while ... (now) I'm ready for the upcoming Test matches,” Roach was quoted as saying ahead of the opening Test of the two match series, starting on Wednesday.
“While I was away I’d therapy and fitness sessions and my body is feeling fit and ready for the challenges ahead."
“With these two games coming up next week and then the following week in Jamaica, I want to make it count big time,” he added further.
The 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler from Barbados was forced to return home last month, in the midst of the Test series against England after sustaining a shin injury during the second Test of the three-match series. The speedster signalled a return to full fitness with a startling performance for West Indies President’s XI in the three-day tour-game against New Zealand, at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, over the weekend.
Roach claimed figures of four for 34 from 17 overs, on the opening day, as the tourists were bundled out for just 149 in their first innings.
Replying to a query regarding his performance against in the tour-game, Roach said that he was happy with the way he bowled, adding that such kind of performance was necessary to get back into the groove and prove he was completely fit to take the new ball in the two-Test series.
“To get those early wickets…was a good return,” said the 24-year-old Barbadian. “It put them under pressure from the start and we maintained that grip. I got the ball to move both ways and that's something I have been working hard to perfect,” he added further.
Roach has to date played 19 Tests for West Indies, and has 70 wickets in his name, including a ten-wicket haul against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at Queen's Park Oval, earlier this year.
The second and final Test of the series will be played at Sabina Park from August 2.
