In 9th grade, I went to conditioning for half the summer then tried out. They said that for someone so new, I improved greatly and I'm a REALLY hard worker, but I was still too new to the sport. So in the spring I tried out for the freshman team, and got cut again. I didn't have time to condition with the team this summer but I worked out so much I went from being able to run a mile in 30 minutes to running a mile in 6. I learned how to serve over the summer, and improved alot. Once again I worked my heart out and they cut me and told me once again, I'm a hard worker but need experience. the oach gave me a website for a volleyball club I could join which would be VERY helpful, but it's $2,000 and my mom doesn't want to spend that kind of money. I try out and never ake it and it's going to get to the point where it's EMBARASSING!

What can I do to get better?!

  1. Conditioning is a big part of volleyball, It defiently helps get you ready for the season! But volleyball isnt running a mile in 6 minutes. You need to get low and pass, up high to hit, to set, to dig,  to know where to stand on the court at what moments! You obviously love volleyball and really want to play. How tall you are can and will depend on what position you play. For example, Im 5'6" and I'm an Outside/Right side and a DS as well. I can jump really high but I definently can't run a mile in 6 minutes! Natural ability to play also comes into play for volleyball, as well as any sport. If you're a natural athlete, it should all come easier. But apperently you're not, so you have to try harder! I hope my advice helped! Good Luck!

  2. try for stingrey volleyball idk how much that cost tho

  3. As a volleyball player myself, I would suggest you learn from someone older. Visit local gyms and see if they have volleyball leagues you can watch.

Like any sport, you must practice, practice, practice. Watch volleyball players and see if someone is willing to help you with your techniques. Don't give up though and don't get discouraged. If you really want to play there is someone out there that can help you and it should not cost 2000.00 to learn a sport... that's ridiculous!

  4. Conditioning does help for volleyball.  It'll help improve your core strength which is vital for almost every skill in volelyball and improve your stamina so that your not the first one worn out.  The only way for you to really get better is to practice with a ball.  The more touches that you get on a bll the better you are going to get.  Yss, club teams are expensive, but they really do help.  Some teams can cost nearly 4,000 dollars.  If your not willing to pay that I suggest that you find a friend that knows how to paly volleyball or ask someon who is currently on a team to help you with the basics.  Watch volleyball game and practice the players footwork.  Notice and memorize their timing for spike approaches.  Notice the height of the ball when they begin their approach.  Practice your passing and setting and the proper form for it.  In bumping you should be low to the ground with you arms out in front of you.  Then to create your platform form a fist with one hand and wrap your other hand around it making sure that your thumbs ar on top and at an angle to the floor. Have someone toss a ball to you and extend your legs (don't swing your arms) in order to create the power needed to pass the ball.  Try passing in different spots in different situations.  For example have the ball tossed short in front of you as wells as "deep" behind you as it causes you to always be on your toes and actually do footwork.  Maybe you could ask to be team manager on one of the teams, that way you have the opportunity to learn and watch at games and practices and it'll make it easier for you to get help from other players.

  5. make sure you can serve overhand, and be very accurate.

try finding a club thats cheaper, we have tons of different clubs around where i live.

make sure you stay in good shape and just practice all the time.

be able to set and bump well and accurately.

just keep playing and make sure to have fun.

  6. don't waste your time runningg, you don't run in vball. xwork on over head serving, passion, and setting, the 3 basics you need to know

  7. Well first you need to stop wasting your time(not in a mean way) doing conditioning and running. Volleyball has nothing to do with that.

You need to go and buy a volleyball from anywhere.. walmart, target, canadian tire. everywhere has them. and you need to take it home and practice bumping and volleying.

  8. well i play volleyball ...i am now playing 4 a club team and that was $2000. i have improved a lot and my dad is a highschool volleyball coach and  he says to WOW the coaches u need to be really tall...or have great skills.....if u can pass to the setter 95% of the time, if ur a GREAT setter, if u know how to hit HARD,and and MOST importantly get ur serves over 90% of the time that there is no reason u should give up! i just started playing volleyball and last year was my first year to play for my school.... its hard work but keep trying, dont listen to what people say...maybe volleyball isnt ur thing! and thats ok but if u really love the sport and u want to keep trying find a position and WORK WORK WORK!! hitter is the least likely to make unless ur REALLY AMAZINGLY TALL! if ur shorter then definitely go setter!! KEEP TRYING AND NEVER GIVE UP!

  9. practice or get a trainer and work out every day (like do 100 crunches when u watch tv or 25 push ups and up the # every other week or so)

  10. I am trying to make the volleyball team for my middle school to so I know what you are going through .

If you really want to play you will go to the camp. Ask your mom if she will pay half && then raise the rest . But I think its retarded that you have to have experience to play . It doesn't matter if you have never played . It matters if you suck or if you're really good && It sounds like you are good . But more than likely , if you go , she will let you on the team :)

    GOOD LUCK

  11. I will use some of the above information and add some.

Conditioning will help, but you can not concentrate on conditioning only.  (I did that my senior year of high school.  I ran to get in shape for basketball.  I did not touch a basketball.  I was in great shape for the conditioning part of the tryouts, but I was terrible with the basketball.  My varsity career was over after the 2 days of tryouts.)  You have to work on your volleyball skills as well.  Buy a volleyball and work out with a friend if you can.  You can work on your approach as well.

You do not have to choose only from one club.  You can use the link below and click on your area to see if there are more clubs in your area to try to join.  They may be less expensive.

You can also try talking with that club to see if there is any way to reduce the expenses.  Clubs know they are expensive and will try to work with people.  I work for a club and we will give some reduced prices if they help out.  There is a lot of paperwork and odd jobs within the club where they may reduce your fees.  We also had coupon books that people could sell to decrease their fees.  A portion of the price went to cover their fees.  Another club printed out a book for the parents and college coaches with the list of all the players and other information.  The players could sell ads for that book and get credit on their fees.  (A full page ad was $400.  If a player sold a full page ad, they were given a $200 credit on their account.)  One club had a parent become the assistant club director.  They did PAPERWORK that is necessary to run the club.  That way, the club director could concentrate on running the club.  You can also go to some local businesses and see if they will help you.  You can take a nice picture in your club uniform and enlarge it.  You can put it in a frame with a thank you for sponsoring you.  (Check with the club before you do this.  If your club has a sponsor of Asics and you go to Mizuno and ask for a sponsorship, it will not be good.)

If you can not work it out so that you can play club, see if you can play at a local community center or YMCA.  The competition will not be great, but you want to get more touches on the ball as often as you can.  Playing in a bad volleyball league will be better than not playing at all.  You can still work on most of your skills.

  12. Well, my advice is to go to someone on the team, and ask around about the coaches and what they expect. Practice with the people on the team and see what advice they can give you. And try to work on your reaction, runnig doesn't have much to do with volleyball.

    Good luck!

  13. WELL THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BUT I KNOW SOME HELPFUL TIPS

*STAY LOW WHEN PASSING BUT STAY STRAIGHT DON'T LEAN OVER PRACTICE PASSING UNDER THE NET TO A PARTNER TO HELP STAY LOW ...

*STAY READY AS MY COACH SAYS STAY ON THE BALLS OF YOUR FEET(YOUR TOES)...IT KEEPS YOU PREPARED AND READY FOR ANYTHING...

****LAST BUT NOT LEAST DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE BALL OR THE FLOOR I GOT BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER AND MOST HUSTLE ON MY TEAM CAUSE OF THESE TIPS BUT DON'T BE AFRAID TO THROW YOURSELF ON THE GROUND...  THE GROUND CAN BE YOUR BEST FRIEND I KNOW ITS MINE...

  14. I don't know what else you can do! But, instead of conditioning and working out all the time, maybe you should work on the actual sport. Learn how to bump, set, and spike over the summer. Maybe you could find some one who's played before and have them teach you some things. NEVER GIVE UP! Keep on trying!

  15. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!!!!!! or u could work on ur skills or something when you walk past the hallways or during a commericial break. like jumping to improve your vertical.

  16. Just get someone who you know that plays or is on the team that can help you individually one on one. That way they can answer all your questions and tell you what your doing wrong.

  17. When someone says u need more experience that means that u need to go on a different team. I live in Rancho Cucamonga and i play in the division A youth volleyball team. see if you city has a city luge u can join and pay that for at least 1 season and see how u are with working as a team. than tryout again and hope that u will make it if not than see if you can be the score keeper.
