  2. Are you an American citizen?  You do not need to become a Mexican citizen to marry a Mexican citizen...and marrying a Mexican citizen, does not give you Mexican citizenship.  If you plan to reside in Mexico there are a couple of options.  You can enter Mexico on a 6 month tourist card and return to the border for a day or two every 6 months, then re-enter on a new one...some people do this for years.  Or, you can apply for an FM3 visa at the nearest American consulate in the U.S. if you marry there before coming to Mexico or at an immigration office in Mexico if you get married in Mexico.  An FM3 requires you to prove you have a minimum monthly income from the U.S of about $1200 a month...but I believe this amount is cut in half if you are married to a citizen.  Ordinarily, a person must re-new their FM3 yearly for 4 more years...then after having an FM3 for 5 years, may apply for an FM2 ( immigrant status) which they must have for 2 years.  Then they are allowed to apply for citizenship if desired...and that takes a minimm of 2 years.  If you are married to a Mexican citizen, these steps go faster...you would need to talk to someone at the Mexican consulate to get the details on that.    Or, you can go tot he nearest immigration  office (INM )after you are married, and they will explain the visa steps to you ( and the shortcuts for married people  which will probably cut 2 or 3 years out of the process. ) You need to read the paragraph on MARRIAGE about 3/4 of the way down the page on the first site below.  I know several American women married to Mexican citizens, some want to pursue citizenship, some do not.  If you later have a child born in Mexico, you MUST register the child's birth at the AmericanEmbassy to assure that he is an American citizen ( he will have dual citizenship). See 2nd site.
