  1. Ride it more.  That costs almost nothing (water bills) and gives you legs of steel

  2. with sky-rocketing gas prices, it'd be cheapest to keep your bike as is. just pedal, it'll be better for you in the long run.

  3. go to the motorized bicycle forum.  you'll find all of the advice you need.

Here are a couple of options:

    Golden Eagle Bike Engines: http://www.bikeengines.com/

Cyclone USA electric bike motors: http://www.cyclone-usa.com/

King Motor Bikes ($199 kit) http://www.kingsmotorbikes.com/

    And here's a Popular Mechanics article from 2004: http://www.popularmechanics.com/outdoors...

I am an avid cyclist.  I own four of them, the high end being a custom titanium.  But there are times when getting somewhere on a bicycle is not feasible, and a motorized bicycle is at least a sensible alternative.

  4. If thinking electric, try this site:

A $1500 legal electric assist bike requires no insurance or registration, is legal on bike paths, can be fixed by most home handymen,  and will pays for itself in gasoline saved alone by Thanksgiving.   and you will be healthier.

Can get 25mph and 40 mile range.

Gas assist also works, but not legal on bike paths, and different states have vastly different  laws.  but can be good.

    Good luck.
