I want to move from adelaide to new york city when i finish university?

i am studying to be an accountant and when i get my degree i want to get a job in new york city and move there. is there anyone who has done something simular to this? or does anyone know how i would go about getting a job in new york city as an accountant?

  1. Unless you are a US citizen, you will be subject to US immigration law.

    Additionally, you may have to seek US accounting certification on top of what you get in Australia, but don't quote me on that since accounting's not my thing.

    On moving to New York City, again that's if you are not a US citizen, you would have to seek employment with a US employer who is willing to sponsor you for a temporary work visa such as an H-1B, or, if you're lucky, a green card, though I would not count on that happening right away.

    To "award" an H-1B visa to a prospective foreign employee, a US employer needs to show evidence to the US government that the position could not be filled from the existing US work force, which is comprised of US citizens and permanent residents, a.k.a. green card holders. Which means a lot of people get priority on you, but if you're good at what you do and can convince an employer to hire you, you should be OK.
