Question:

I want to move from the UK to another country, where should I go to?

Britain is really starting to p**s me off - me and a couple of friends want to move abroad when we're older.

Where would you recommend? At the moment we're thinking about New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, France, Germany, maybe the US. Any advice/warnings on moving to any of those countries? Or any other suggestions where we could go to? Have to be friendly places with nice natural countryside, like mountains or forests or lakes etc.

Thanks!

  1. I moved from the UK to Singapore.  A tip I'd give you if you're thinking about moving abroad in the future is to do a TEFL or TESOL (teaching English as a foreign language) course because in most countries, it would really help you out with getting a job.  Another good way of seeing the world is to become a teacher as international schools abroad are always looking for teachers (quite good pay sometimes too).

As for countries, Europe would be quite easy for you because of the EU - less restrictions for other Europeans moving around there.  Places like Australia, USA etc will require work permits which you can look into nearer the time.  Sometimes they'll only allow you in for 6-12 months and in some countries you have to already have a job lined up or they'll just give you a visitors pass for 30 days or so.

For any country you are interested in, check out their embassy websites - they'll tell you what you need to know.

But I don't blame you for wanting to move - it's great to travel about and see a bit of the world and you might even find that the UK starts to look quite attractive again once you've seen a few places (I still get homesick sometimes.......although a 2 or 3 week visit back there usually sorts it out LOL!)

  2. Anywhere would be better than the UK at present, though most places have problems.

I would love to move to Italy, lovely friendly people, lakes, mountains, great beaches, fab cities and a brilliant culture.

Red tape is a nightmare though. However still my first choice

Nearly moved to Portugal some years ago as very much like Britain in the 50's however has now caught up with the rest of Europe and has same problems, glad we decided against it.

  3. Montreal!!

  4. All European countries are suffering from the same problems at the moment.

New Zealand and Australia still have a basic feeling of "life's there for living - we'll worry later" so it would be my advice to go there, but don't think you can just go and live in places unless you can offer them some useful skills and prove you can support yourselves.

I hope you make the right choice. I left years ago.

  5. I moved to Cyprus, its beautiful.

  6. Europe would be the easiest, particularly if you speak another language. It's much easier to move around the European Union than other places.

If you are considering Australia or the U.S. then expect a lot of paper work and a fair amount of money before you have any realistic hope of moving there.

    Good luck!

  7. us or Australia

  8. just get it done before it's too late .

  9. The best waves are in Hawaii - with the added bonus that you can get free breakfasts at the casinos in Honolulu. Just spend a few bucks gambling - you just might win. (Play Roulette - bet only on odds and evens.)

California is good for surf culture - but beware the surf n***s. Some are a real pain in the neck.

New Zealand is good too - very friendly people into anything athletic. Really good sailboarding. Also some really beautiful scenery.

    Good luck.

  10. Denmark.......my brother moved there about 10years ago , lovely country, they love to practise their English, cities lively, country tranquil.......BUT, income tax is 50% and it helps to like eating fish.

  11. Austrailia's good but my aunti moved there years ago and she like it with her husband. However, she said alot go over a don't like it and return. I guess that could happen any where though.

I personally, wouldn't like the US; it's good for a holiday but wouldn't like live there.

European countries are your safest bet. With the EU it's simple to move and doesn't take long to nip home.
