I want to move into my own apartment but how much money should I save and when should I start looking?

I am looking to rent an apartment between $600-$800/mo. I will be living by myself.

Your monthly income must be 3 x your monthly rent.  You should have one month's rent and a security deposit.

Moving is expensive. I would budget out your monthly expenses and figure out what you can really afford. Take into account, rent, utilities, gas, food, entertainment, etc.

Try to stay within your budget when you start looking and I would make sure you have at least 3 months rents in savings for a rainy day.
