I live in Ohio now and nothing ever seems to work and I'm trying to find a new place with great opportunities or just somewhere new to go. Even if it's to go to school or anything. So tell me some places!

  2. You can go to school anywhere but there are more jobs in the cities.

Everywhere is the same, just go where the weather suits you.

  3. California.

  4. california, new york city, long island, New jersey, south/north carolina?

  5. Well if I lived in Ohio I would want to move away too. I've actually lived all over the country (16 different states) and can safely say that none of them compare to Oregon (in my opinion).

I've lived in Portland, Central Oregon (Bend), Southern Oregon (Medford area) and all have pluses and minuses.

Portland's traffic is way too much for my liking, but it's a gorgeous city with TONS to do. If you like bigger cities rather than college towns, this is one of the nicer ones. Very green and clean for the most part. I would suggest the west side (Raleigh Hills, Lake Oswego, Beaverton, Tigard). Just not a fan of the east side (or Hillsboro on the west). It rains quite a bit and summers tend to be humid...but not as bad as the south (I've lived in Kentucky and Texas too...it's not as bad as there usually).

Central Oregon is awesome if you are into outdoor activities from snowboarding to hiking to rafting. The Deschutes River runs through the area and Mt. Bachelor ski resort is there as well. But the winters come with a LOT of snow, and they're not the best for keeping on top of sanding the roads. Great high desert climate...virtually no humidity. Winters are on the cold side for sure. There is a community college as well as a satellite campus of Oregon State University there, but it only offers limited majors. The job market is virtually non-existent in Bend.

Southern Oregon has much milder winters, but tend to have hot summers. 100 degree days are not out of the norm. Southern Oregon University is in Ashland, which is only 10 miles or so from Medford. It's a gorgeous little college town with craftsman and victorian houses all over. It's also the most expensive area of Southern Oregon, but I believe there are some affordable apartments. I couldn't tell you about the job market as I haven't lived there in quite a long time. I go back to visit friends on a regular basis though.

I live in the Eugene/Springfield area and I love it. I'm a little over an hour from the Pacific beaches, 2 hours from Mt. Bachelor, and basically centralized to almost everything (Portland is about 1 1/2 hours north of here). We've got a community college, a private christian college and the University of Oregon (which I am a HUGE fan of for several reasons :). Housing here isn't going to break the bank and there are TONS of rentals all around the campus area (U of O an NW Christian basically run into each other), and it's a very pedestrian-bike-friendly town with a good public transit system if you don't want to drive all the time. We do get rain here, but not as much as Portland...and lets face it, it wouldn't be so pretty and green here without all the rain. Plus I would take rain over 2 feet of snow anyday...especially when I'm having to drive in it!

I've lived everywhere from California to Boston and most places in between...if you have any questions on any other places feel free to email me.

    Good luck!

  6. Sugarland, Texas

Housing is inexpensive, and it's beautiful
