For the last couple years i have been dreaming of moving to ireland. I think i have finally decided to actually pursue it. I have a problem, because i have never moved out of the states before. I would like some help on how to obtain citizenship and how to get my things there, the best way to look or get help looking for a small studio appartement. I would also like to know how much will the total move cost me. I have about as much stuff to fill a good sized studio apartement. I would like to know the best way to gain employment immeadiately or before arrival. I was thinking about maybe dublin or on the outskirts of dublin. I would appreciate some help very much please. Thank you.

  1. If you are an EU national, just try to organise a job first, then getting a residency permit is no problem. You wouldn't need to change your citizenship, you would just need to renew your residency permit whenever they ask you to.

If you from any other part of the world, you'll need to get a job, which is not easy as due to the bureaucracy involved Irish employers tend to take on Irish, then EU nationals, and only then will they look for someone from outside of the pool of potential candidates. However, if you have an unusual skill, and can find someone to employ you, all you need is a letter from your employer which can be used for your residency and work permit.

Rather than paying a fortune to ship over your stuff, and then a fortune to store it, I'd sell the lot. You'll need the money for a deposit on a place to live, whether you're buying or renting. Please be advised that buying property in Ireland is still extortionate, particularly in the Dublin region. Renting is not far behind. Then you could use Buy and Sell to get good quality secondhand items.

I think it takes 6 years of living here to be entitled to citizenship. Good luck with that.

However, if you have never been to Ireland before, come visit before committing yourself to a big move. You might not like the reality of it.

  2. Unemployment is on the rise sonny.

We went to sign on this morning and the queues were out the door. The boss was fuming when we got back to work late........

  3. Better start swimming

  4. The best thing to do is sort our your citizenship first.

Under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts, 1956 to 2004, a person who was born outside Ireland is automatically an Irish citizen by descent if one of that person's parents (or grandparents) was an Irish citizen who was born in Ireland.

Otherwise you must apply for a work visa or permit and live here for 5 years before you can apply or work in Ireland.

To get a work visa you must obtain a profession for the following professions:

    Architect

    Medical profession

    IT professional

A work Permit will cost you between  Ã¢Â‚¬500- €1500 depending on how long it is for (max of three years)

You can only get a work permit if an employer hires you and applies for one for you, that employer must show reason on that application to the govt why you, an american... are more qualified for the position than an Irish citizen or someone who is part of the EU.

Or for Jobs with an annual salary of €30,000 or more.

Dublin is easily the most expensive part of Ireland to live in.

Check out this site to see the price of rents:

    http://www.daft.ie/

A studio in Dublin will cost upwards of €650 per month (€650  would get you a box on the outskirts of the City).

    For Jobs:

    http://www.irishjobs.ie/

    http://www.recruitireland.com/

As for the over all cost I couldn't even hazard a guess.  The cost of living in Dublin is ridiculously high so I can guarantee it will be pricey.
