Hello,

I am American and I love Italy. I want to move there so badly. I don't know what I could do to make a living there though. Any ideas? I am not fluent but I think that most Italians speak english any way.

  1. Maybe you can take a vacation to Italy before you make your choice. See if it is what you think.

  2. These are sites for expats in various European countries countries and general info on living and working in Europe. The first few are specific to Italy:

I moved to Italy several years ago, but it was through my job. If you're a US citizen, you can't just show up in Europe and stay for longer than 3 months. It is illegal to work here without the proper work visa or student visa. Please be aware that you will have to file taxes both here and in the US if you retain your US citizenship.

In general in Europe, and in particular here in Italy, you have to have a job lined up in order to get a work visa before you move here from the US. You can only stay for 90 days without some type of visa (work, student, ...). You cannot apply for the visa while you're here and you'll need the proper paperwork from the company. However, you could come over as a tourist for up to 90 days without a visa and look for work. Then you'd have to go back to the US and wait for the paperwork for a visa to be processed. Coming from the US, you'll also have to have skills that can't easily be duplicated here. That will mean a degree in a marketable field.

It is much easier if you are an EU citizen; then you have the right to move and work within the EU.

  3. Hi dont let all of these pesimists put you off they all have valid points, take the practical advice that you can put into good use, but ignore everything else, if you have a dream to live in italy then it can happen, it will happen, you can make it happen.

  4. Most Italians do not speak English well but this is an advantage for you.... Italians do need English like everyone else in the world today so if you are a native speaker you could be anything from a teacher to a tourist guide. If you are not, it also depends on your expertise yet working in the tourism domain is usually a good choice for most expats.

  5. To be honest... usually italian people speak a terrible english or don't speak english at all.. however we are very friendly and try to understand foreign people. Better if you go in big turistic cities, such as Milan, Rome etc.

  6. benvenuto!

    sorry i don't speak english...

Send a resume to an interim work agency

  7. Well…… I wish to move in the states… 

Here the live is not easy, not so many people speak English….

even if we are friendly and nice with foreigner…

You can find a facility in the states that has branches here in Italy.

Like Eaton corporation, Nestle, Boeing, and others….

To find work here is not easy for an Italian…. so I think is much harder

    for a foreigner….

  8. Well I don't think you can just move there, your going to need some type of visa. Like a work permit or something. Try looking for a job in the U.S. then see if its possible to transfer there

  9. Hello, I am English and I love Italy too. Unfortunately, finding work in Italy is not easy, especially if you do not speak Italian.

The Italian economy is not very strong ( then again who's is ) and Italians do not get paid very well.

You could probably get work in a english speaking bar/restaurant, but you would be poor. There are jobs to be found on http://www.monster.it depends on your skills.

  10. ahahah!! I'm not so sure!!! Why do you want to live in Italy? There's nothing that works as it should work...
