Me and my boyfriend live in Smalltownsville in Fife, Scotland and want to head for the grimy life of the city before we decide to settle down and have kids! London too expensive and Glasgow/Edinburgh too close. I want to rent a flat and be walking distance to everything city centre but in a nice area with parking. He is an artist and won't go far living here and i am sick of having to travel to Edinburgh for a decent night out! Cheers.

  1. Not Manchester. Please not Manchester. It always rains in Manchester. Your kids will get rusty if you live there and you'll finish up speaking in that funny accent that only Manchurians understand. Fife, Ah Fife, Gods own country. The only place left in this ******** world where perfect English is still spoken.

Personally I have never been there but it sounds poetical. Come to Kent, Truly the garden of England and raise your children in paradise.

  2. Salford Quays is very nice, but could be expensive, check out the rents first, go on Salford.gov

  3. It sounds like you're going to have to compromise on at least one of the things on your wish list.

You can't have somewhere that's walking distance from the city centre, but yet a nice safe area. Nor can you have somewhere in the city centre with parking, unless you have a LOT of money. Forgive me for guessing but if your boyfriend is an artist, you don't have a LOT of money.

I'd suggest living in one of the suburbs. I grew up outside Stockport, which I liked (though some don't). There are trains regularly until late, there are night busses throughout the night,  and you're a bit closer to the Peak District for when you want a break from suburbia or city life.

  4. why england?the place is a shithole

  5. 2 points.......im happy

  6. If you do move to manchester, stick to the main roads when walking around. It just like any other city realy. Quite dangerous if you decide to walk in the back streets. You must be mad to want to live in the centre. Just higher a flat or betsite in one of the suberban towns. The buses into manchester from the suberban towns arre every 10 mins. I would try castleton or rochdale. But the rochdale observer when you take a trip down here for accommodation. Yeah like the guy above says,Saddleworth is a nice place and the bus only takes an hour to manchester. I know.

  7. The nicer areas are outside of the city centre but there's a great bus service that goes into the centre so it was never a problem for me when i lived there. I lived in East disbury, it's really nice and chilled out. It's about a 20 minute bus ride into the city centre.

There are tons of flats in the city centre and as long as you take care and be a bit street wise then you'll be fine.

  8. i live near manchester and would not recommend anyone moving to manchester..if you must move here look further afield ,eg:- saddleworth  {good trains to manc/and direct bus route
