I'm thinking I want to live in a some what small city but a days driving distance to the beach. I love the slow life of Mexico. Yet I also want to be able to make a descent living, so it has to be a place with good job options.

  1. chec the FM3 is the paper to work in mexico and the cost is 300 in your embasi . good look

  2. You can't buy a house unless you are a citizen of mexico.  You may be able to do a 99 year lease.  You have to be able to trust the person, though.

    Buena suerte.

  3. I love san miguel de allende is a small town very mexican town but there are lots of english speakers there , theres more american people tan mexican ... also there is Vallarta that is a very beautiful beach , Leon that is a small city excellent to live , queretaro , puebla ... etc

  4. You cant unless you are a citizen.

  5. Your problem would be WORKING in Mexico.  There is a reason so many Mexicans go to the U.S. to work.  Jobs are scarce in Mexico. They also pay dirt.  Even college educated proessionals make very little.   Foreigners CANNOT work in Mexico without a work permit and these are very difficult to get.  You must be a highly educated, highly skilled professional to make it worthwhle for a Mexican employer to sponsor your work visa.  You must find an employer who will write a letter to immigration stating that he is giving you a job and that he cannot find a Mexican for this job.  There is no such thing as a general work visa that just lets you move here and work.  Teachers here make about $400.00 a month, nurses too.  There are many college educated Mexicans working as waiters because they can make more as waiters.  Mexico is a great place to retire to if you have a pension, but it is not a good choice if you are young.  EVERY country in the world has the same restrictions on foreigners working in their country, including the United States.  The problem is most people do not realize this and think they can just move to another country and work.  You know all those illegal aliens in the U.S.?  The reason they are called "Illegal" is because they do NOT have work visas to work in the U.S.  And the reason they go to the U.S. is that there is so much unemployment in Mexico.  It would be far better for you to find a place in the U.S. where you can be happy, have a good job with a retirement plan, work, save, and move to Mexico when you retire.

Just saw the other 2 answers which say only citizens can by a house in Mexico.  That is a common misunderstanding, but is NOT true.  There are thousands of Americans and other foreigners who have bought houses in Mexico.  That law applies only to beachfront property.
