  1. Actually, if you move to a tourist city, it would be extremely EASY for you to find a job in a hotel or with a tourist company. And then if you speak some spansh, it would be even easier.

I lived in Puerto Vallarta for a little while...I LOVED it

  2. You are very young for this kind of decision but good luck to you.

you can take some courses and train to teach english...look for work in many of the hotels that want english speakers, etc.

  3. Hello.

Well, maybe you can't come to live here, but you can come anytime you want for vacations!

You could make a bussines on your own.

  4. Chelsea i could not agree with you more. you must understand that before making a move though you have to apply for an FM2 or FM3 visa. this is in order for you to work down in Mexico. or you can just marry a Mexican citizen than you can work. the problem is the company that hires you have to sign all these papers saying they could not find a Mexican citizen to work there and its alot of paperwork and hassle. pay is going to be less than in US but i wouldnt trade a huge paycheck in the US for the beauty in Mexico. i would get familiar with the Spanish language as well. it will make life easier. As far as all the crime and drugs i mean come on. you go to Chicago, LA, New York or any other city in the US and you are going to see crime and drugs. That is everywhere. People telling you that is a bunch of dumb gringos that form an opinion of something by listening to "talking heads" (News reporters on TV) and not experiencing it for themselves. I would say go for it I did.

  5. Oh Tex! San Antonio doesn't even come close to having the charm of the cities in the Central interior of Mexico. I was born and raised in Texas (Rio Grande Valley) and all I had ever seen of Mexico was the border areas up until a few years ago, and I was NOT impressed. However, once I ventured past the border, I found a country that has so much culture, history, and beauty that I was ashamed of my badly mistaken impressions.

OK, now that I had my say on that, how good are you at making a cocktail? If you are a real people person you might find a job at a decent bar in the tourist areas and be able to make quite a nice living while you are there. If you are really cute, you might make that just by delivering those drinks. Of course you might do better in a business town as a cocktail waitress. The novelty of a cute American serving them their drinks might really loosen up some of the business guys wallets at tip time as they are big flirts, just don't go to far with them because they are macho and can be offended easily if they feel they are played. You might look into a nanny position for a family that is trying to teach English to their children and want it reinforced at home. You have to be creative, and you really want it settled before you hit the ground there.

  6. I would not advise it. Mexico is not the romantic place it used to be. It's very dangerous. Drugs, are rampart down there.

Move to San Antonio, Texas and have the same beefits without the danger.

  7. It depends where in Mexico you would like to go to.

It also depends on what type of profession you're aiming for. There are some where you'd have to go to school and others where you could start on right away.

    Good luck with the move!

  8. Unlike the US, who lets d**n near anyone show up and get a job, Mexico is VERY protectionist.

They have massive unemployment (as is evidenced by a gigantic chunk of their population sneaking into our country).

I think it's very unlikely you're going to get a job there.

What a place is like when you're vacationing, is quite a different thing than when you live there.

  9. you can become an enlish teacher, hahaha  my irish friends   are about to leave Ireland next year,  unfortunately for you, i don't know you , but my friends have a secure job TEACHING english at a local school, the funny thing about this is, they could easily move to spain to tech english, but the payment there is as much as the wage they are going to get here, i mean measure by PURCHASE power..

try to become an english teacher, you can charge as much as 1600 pesos a month for 1 1/2 hours a day 5 days a week.

in the meantime you can learn spanish ..   i've met people who did not study any major , but they learned many languages during their youth. So in their 40's they are making a reasonable income by teching foreign languages.

    GOOD LUCK!.

you are moving in the right direction...  many europeans are arriving to mexico to live and work, regarding the charlie's advices.. baaa.. she is part of the old fashioned people...

she will say that you need  college  and diplomas to teach english , but  i think  you can earn more  if you work as  freelance....    you  just need to get as many pupils as you can ...

  10. Find Charlie, and ask her. She knows.
