Question:

I want to move to Quebec?

So in about 5 years I want to move to Quebec, Canada.

I currently live in the United States.

WHEN I move I'll be either 18 or 19.

I want to maybe go to college there? An acting school, perhaps?

Because acting and theatre is what I want to do.

So I need some information. Anyone live in Quebec? Been there?

What do I need to do before I move there? Tests, procedures?

How can I get into a college to my liking there?

What's in like in Qubec?

I'm trying to learn french, don't they speak it fluently there?

Should I learn it thoroughly?

I realize that I may sound naive and young and my plans COULD change in the future, but I highly doubt that. I'd just like to have some information and help on this so I can accomplish the life I want. No plans any time soon.

So, give me some answers/info? :D

thank you!

  1. I've been to Quebec-it's a beautiful city but they mostly speak French up there. And everything is soooooooo expensive. Stay in America-it's basically the same but bigger and better!

  2. French is the main language of the Quebec.  It is a very beautiful place.  It can be down right cold in the winter time.  There are many great school in the all of Canada  Check out an international website for colleges and universities, they will give you all the information about schools that u wish.  There will also be some immigration hurdles you will have to jump but going to the government websites for both USA and Canada you can have all of your questions answered.

  3. I'd deffinatly learn friend thoroughly if you plan to move here. French is the main language.

I'd look into colleges before you move to make sure they have an acting program. I'm pretty sure McGill has some programs you can get into.

McGill is one of the most famous colleges in Canada... no pressure :P

18 or 19 is good.. seeing the legal age here is 18. To live in Quebec.. or to become a Canadian citizen is a long hard process I believe. You'd have to talk to someone who works at the customs I believe.

But before you worry about that.. def. learn french !

  4. Best bet in re colleges is to go to the school's website and see what it says about admitting American citizens.  You probably won't be able to get scholarships.

It's possible for Americans to go to school in Canada.  McGill does have classes in English [I know someone who went there].  But French is the "primary" language in Quebec and in Montreal all the businesses, government agencies, etc must use French first [for their signs, menus, etc], with English in smaller print or, when spoken, spoken second.

It can be harder to live/work in Canada.  You would need to get a work permit, which is not easy to get.  I know someone else who had to jump through a lot of hoops trying to get a Canadian work permit and never did.  You might want to check with the official Canadian government website to see what the process involves.
