I live in northern Ireland and have a British passport.

I can speak french relatively well

I am only 17 and therefore currently sitting my A-levels.

Do I need to do any exams in France like the equivelant or do they accept ours?

I know quite a bit about the culture but I am still unsure as to where I should locate.

Paris is the obvious choice for a young person, but where else would you recommend?

How much are apartments in different locations around france? (i know thats very general but Im still unsure which area i want)

I know unemployment is just under 10% so, would I find it difficult to find a job!

the a-levels i've chosen are

-French

-Biology

-Maths

-Chemistry

Are these subjects useful in france?

Any other information would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

  1. well. 1st you have to know France is not only a Paradise. If you're coming (and you'll be welcome trust me!) you have to be prepared to frequent strikes, and yes life is not always easy for adults (I'm only 16 but I see my parents and friends!).

2nd. France is not only Paris! Actually, Paris is the hardest place to find a place to live! You won't find anything really livable under €1000/month (and not in the best districts!) But I recommend you to come and live in Lyon (when I do live!!^^LOL). That's really a great place to live! Well, yes it's not Paris for the nightlife, but everything is fine here. Not too crowded, 2nd city in France, good weather in general w/ 4 distinct seasons! close to the Alps (1.30hours), not that far from the Mediterranean Sea (3h to Marseille). Plus, your A-levels (which seem good By The Way!) seem to be oriented to science and that is great 'cause Lyon is a city w/ lot of science works, especially in Chemistry and Biotechnology! The city is the French 'Capital of Gastronomy' (that can help you to choose!^^) and is surrounded by vineyards. Restaurants are really good here! the city itself is nice. Great shopping, great schools, big parks, good entertainment (even if, once more that is not Paris!), not that expensive (not that cheap neither!). 'Bout the weather, summer can be very hot (in 2003 it reached 41°C! but that was exceptionnal), winter are cool and dry (rare snowfalls). Rain falls mostly in spring and fall. Plus transports are very good (subway+tram+buses!) and clean. Hope that helps you! well if you want I can give you informations on other parts of France, just ask^^!Bye and sorry for the mistakes!
