  1. Social Security benefits OK. I just found out that if you are on disability you can't stay more than 30 days. Better to check that out. You can't lose your US citizenship but you could be deported from Mexico.

  2. there are MANY websites with info on retiring in Mexico...do a search...you wil find many helpful facts.  If you are not RETiring, but just want to move to Mexico and work there...DOn't...you cannot make a living.  Retiring there is easy.  contact nearest mexican embassy and apply for an FM3 visa for retired person..  Your S.S. check must be deposited in a U.s. bank automtically every month.  Get a bank like bank of America so you can use your ATM card in Mexico.  You cannot work in Mexico without a work visa..very hard to get.  If you are retiring to Mexico and have other questions , you may e-mail me.

  3. Haha dont worry a lot of people makes that, for exaple the old retired man, came here, buy a house and each 2 monts go back to usa to "report" and get their benefits and they money from the gov, hahahaha

  4. That would depend on which benefits you refer to. You can get an FM-3 visa to live in Mexico which you renew once a year. You would maintain your present citizenship. As far as earning this is a bit more tricky. An FM-3 Visa allows you to reside in Mexico and another allows you to work in Mexico. You do not need to report your earning in the US but you are suppose to report them in Mexico. Of course any funds that you bring back to the US you will need to report to the I.R.S. and declare at the border.

  5. No, yes and yes. You retain your US social security benefits no matter where you go in the world.

Yes, you must report foreign earnings every year to the IRS and you must file a form with the Treasury Dept. separate from the IRS listing all foreign bank accounts, investment accounts, etc. that had a value of $10,000 US or more during the tax year.

And yes, Mexico requires a Visa and other documentation for foreigners to become resident aliens.
