im 16 i live in chicago , im about to start my jr. year. ive been wanting to leave with my dad for some time. my mother and father have been divorced since i was like 2. my mother haves PERSONAL PROBELMS WITH MY DAD which have nothing to do with me. THATS THE ONLY REASON SHE WONT LET ME LEAVE WITH MY DAD. she thinks all negative things about him, stuff that i know are not true. i really love my sisters and family on my dads side, when im with them i feel like i have a family. in life people want alot of material things but me i just want my family. Ive been back in forth to minnesota where my dad lives.

I also dont even know what high school im transfering to in chicgao. the only thing holding me here is basketball . im a competitive athlete very good player. but i feel i can easily do the same thing in minnesota. all ii need is a job there and enroll in a school and ill be fine.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

  1. well because of the divorce... she probably has custody of you,,, so that may be one of the issues... and also, there may be things about your dad that your mom hasn't said. But mainly, it's probably ust because your mom doens't want to loose you. I know as a mother, i couldn't just let my kids move away. You are 2 years away from being an "adult" and then you can make the decision on your own. But for now, make the most of the situation and be happy where you are.

  2. Speak to an attorney.  Even if there is a custody agreement, at 16, you should be able to express your wishes to the judge.  It's worth a shot.

  3. First you need to know for sure that it is OK with your Dad.  At your age the court should let you decide where you want to live.
