  1. I don't really like it. It's a surname meaning "son of the handsome one", which isn't exactly a very feminine name for a little girl. It's also pretty trendy and was the 64th most popular name for baby girls last year, which, while not too sickeningly popular, would still guarantee that your daughter would meet a lot of other girls with this name. However, it is on the decline (it was most popular around 2001-2004), so while your daughter might not meet many girls her own age with this name, she may meet a great deal older girls with this same name. It also doesn't age well. MacKenzie might be cute for a 5-year-old, but it sounds a bit silly on a 55-year-old. If you really like the name, go ahead and name your daughter MacKenzie. It's really not an awful name and, I'll admit, it does have a nice ring to it. If you decide not to name your daughter MacKenzie after all, here are some other names that I think you should consider (these either sound similar to MacKenzie or have a similar "flavor"):

Kendra - English name meaning "bold power" or "royal power", currently the 202nd most popular name for baby girls.

Kenna - Scottish name meaning "born of fire", currently the 833rd most popular name for baby girls.

Marissa - English name meaning "beloved (from Mary), famous warrior (from Luisa)", currently the 133rd most popular name for baby girls.

Kendall (or Kendal) - Welsh surname meaning "valley of the River Kent", currently the 166th most popular name for baby girls.

Casey (or Kasey) - Irish surname meaning "descendant of the vigilant one", currently the 458th most popular name for baby girls.

Kennedy - Irish name meaning "armoured head", currently the 110th most popular name for baby girls.

Riley (or Reilly) - English name, meaning unknown, currently the 52nd most popular name for baby girls.

Kerry (or Carrie, Kerri, Kari, etc.) - English name, meaning unknown, currently not in the top 1000 names for baby girls.

    Hope I helped! Congratulations!

  2. BLAH. BLAH. BLAH.

Do you have any idea just how popular McKenzie, or any butchered spelling of the name, really is? It's sickening.

Not only was the name originally masculine (meaning "Son of Coinneach; son of the fair one") it's also very, very juvenile. It may be cute now, but how would a 45 year old Mackenzie look to you?

The best critique I can give you for this name is just to not use it. It's done to death, it's tacky, and she definatley will not be the only one in her school/class.

  3. I don't like the name Mackenzie on a boy let alone a girl. Mac reminds me of Mcdonalds and it sounds like another version of Makayla with a ghetto looking capital in the middle.

  4. Honestly, I went to school with someone whose last name was Mackenzie.  For me it's more of a surname than a first name.  However, I think it makes a very cute baby girl's name.  I like it spelled this way, too.  Personally, I like Mackenzie Ann over Mackenzie Marie.  Mackenzie also holds a ton of nicknames; Mack, Max, Kenzie, Kenz, etc.

    Great name choice!

  5. Very generic.

  6. Ignore the name nerds ... the 'son of' meaning doesn't matter it's very beautiful and feminine. If you want to be a bit more unique you could go for McKenna, McKinley, McCartney or McKinnon.

  7. I know someone who named their kid JuliAnna, and I think it is sooooo annoying.  Like, the laws of punctuation don't apply to you; let's just capitalize a letter in the middle of a name.  I know, let's just name someone K8 instead of Kate?  Or we can just name someone @#%.  How about that?

  8. I like the name, but I prefer variations like Mackenzie (no caps).

  9. Nothing feminine, girly, or unisex about this name. It sounds masculine, it has a masculine meaning, it's MASCULINE.

  10. I like it but I would spell it differently.  Makenzie maybe.  But I like ann the best for the middle name.  My step mom has a daughter named Makenna.  Maybe you like that name?

  11. Love it!

My 3yo is Mackenzie Grace...  People say it's so popular, but I think it depends on your area.  I don't find many other little girls named Mackenzie around here.

I prefer the name with no caps also.

My daughter probably thinks her name is Kenzie though.   =)

  12. I have never liked the name MacKenzie.

  13. Yuck. Mac means SON OF. Your baby girl is your daughter, not your son.

  14. MacKenzie is REALLY cute, but I like it spelled McKenzie better! You could call her Kenzie for short. Here are some middle names:

    MacKenzie Rae

    Marie

    Alyssa

    Jamie

    Kate

    Anne

    Rain

    Jennifer

    Aleah

    Jessica

    Leah

    Chelsea

    Charlotte

    Amanda

    Heather

    Caroline

    Mariana

    Dina

    Lee

    Neve

    Delilah

    Christine

    Dianah

    Janet

    Teagan

    Sailor

    Sierra

    Taylor

    Addison

    Emerson

    Jacey

    Macey

    Allison

    Alexandra

    good luck!

  15. No, please don't.

Aside from the fact that the "Mac" or "Mc"in a name means "son of" (and is therefore not really a good choice for a girl), the world has more than enough little McKenzies, McKaylas, and McKennas in it.  The name is way too trendy--show some originality!!

As for Ann and Marie, they are pretty predictable middle names.  Look to your family tree for some inspiration.

  16. Despite it's incredible spurt in popularity recently, I really love it.  It's cute, pretty and spunky but I think still strong enough to hold up for her as an adult.  I like the spelling without the capitalization though; Mackenzie like that looks cleaner to me.  Plus, I think it's a lot better than the messy, kind of bland names like Mikayla or twisted spellings of Mackenzie like MyKenzie, which I just think are ugly and not as spunky as just Mackenzie.

Mackenzie Marie has one too many M's and -ie endings for me, but I love the sound of Mackenzie Anne.  I also love the sound of Mackenzie Elizabeth; either one is great because they're such classics and go well with the more modern Mackenzie.  I'd definitely go with Mackenzie, but if you wanted other suggestions, maybe think about Delaney, Nicola, Evan, Gwen, Claire, Katy Liz, Adrian, Lily or Lila, etc?

    Good luck and congrats!

  17. i think its a lovely name

you dont hear that name very often

but i would spell it in an unusual way  to make it even more unique, but in my opinion-dont use the middle name marie because i know about 12 people who's middle name is marie-i've gotten very tired of it. ann is a bit used to but better than marie and original.

i wish you luck with the name =]

  18. I usually don't answer if my answer is negative, but I think MacKenzie is way too popular and there will be so many of them with your little girl. How about Kezia? I think it's a darling name. Or McKenna?

  19. I don't care for it.  Sounds trendy.  Also, "MacKenzie" means "Son of Kenzie".

  20. Mackenzie "Mack" is a boy name. My cousin's name is Mackenzie "Mack" Philip.

  21. I like Gracee's Mom's answer. Good job!

I like Mackenzie but not with the capital K in it. Its too masculine. I like the spelling Mackenzie or Makenzie.

I don't like Ann or Marie as the middle name. How about:

    Mackenzie Melrose

    Mackenzie Alexis

    Mackenzie Paige

    Mackenzie Leona

    Mackenzie Noelle

    Mackenzie Joelle

    Mackenzie Loretta

    Mackenzie Maria

    Mackenzie Shane

    Mackenzie Rebekah

    Good luck! :o)
