Question:

I want to name my son Forkbeard; is it appropriate?

I recently attended my brother’s graduation at university, and discovered that the alumni and alumnae had their full-names read out, when they are awarded their degree(s). I know that full-names are also read out at weddings and other formal occasions. Is Forkbeard an appropriate middle name?

  1. have a bag packed for your child 4 the nearest boarding school and one for you to the nearest prison!honestly, cedric would have been a better name. tut, tut,

  2. Oh god yes, I would love a name like Forkbeard!!!

My boyfriend and I decided a while back that if we have kids, we are going to make their initials into petrol stations...we're mean that way.

Tommy Ed Xavier Alex Charlie Oliver will be the first..

  3. Don't laugh, it's a familiar historical name here in Dublin, (in the sense that the name Attila is also famous). But I guess you also have to ask yourself if this is still in 2008 a fashionable name in Denmark?

Is your son a famous Viking? Has he been born yet? Has he been conceived yet? Did he conquer England in 1013?

*Sveinn Forkbeard: King of Denmark, England, Norway and founder of Swansea ('Svein's Eie' or 'Sweyn's Island').

    Canute the Great:

Danish Viking King. Son of Sveinn Forkbeard.

  4. I say go for it.  In an age of anoymity, anything that sets you away from the crowd is a good thing.  My name is Ashley and I share that name with what feels like every other girl.  When I have kids, I am naming them unusual names like Heirloom, Darkly, Riddle.

  5. For a hill jack in WV that is just fine they name their kids all kinds of funny names.  There is Tin Can,  lil ox breath, Spoon Chitlans, and don't forget WV is where they came up with the name for the tooth brush.  Cause anywhere else it would have been called the teeth brush!

  6. No, it isn't!

  7. If you really want to name your kid after a Danish king, go for it . . . . . but if I was your child, and I grew up with the middle name "Forkbeard", I would seriously consider running away and changing my name, if not something worse. . .

  8. Why Forkbeard?

  9. I think it only appropriate if you want your son to hate you in years to come, as he will spend most of his life having the pee taken out of him!

  10. poor kid! does his mother know? what does she think?

I think you should wait until he gets old enough to wear a beard and then , if he decides to style it so it forks, you could could call him (I can't bring myself to type it) as a nickname.

    How about that?

  11. How about this, instead:

    Secreesha-eesha-shay-abugaloo-minell

  12. its a teasing hazard during scool if any one finds out...

    i wouldnt do it.

    dont torture the poor child.

    -Desiree

  13. Well you can easily answer this question for yourself.

How would you feel being called by the name "Forkbeard" ?

  14. Anything, absolutely anything is better than the c**p daft name of TYLER (Yuck)

  15. Serious? You are going to scar your child for life.

  16. Sure if you don't like your kid.

  17. Yeah go for it

  18. h***s too the no scrap that name

  19. It's good to secure the hatred of your offspring from an early age.

  20. I don't think this works for non-celebrities...

  21. Only if you want your kid to stab you to death in the middle of the night.  Kidding. Its a horrible name.....for the next 6 months, walk around using that name...then you will understand why it is not a name to name your kid. If you really like the name, get a dog.

  22. middle name yes, first name no. Some people have crazy middle names and it is not necessarily a bad thing...but if you name your kid Forkbeard Jones or w/e he will get made fun of no to no end. Save a life and name him something basic.

  23. It's not exactly something I'd name my son.

If you care about his self esteem, please don't name him that.

Growing up, people will make fun of him in elementary school.

In middle school his self esteem will already be low and he

    will be put lower.

High school will be the 4 years that make or break him.

I wouldn't because that's what happens to many people, but

if you think it won't, then name him that. it's somewhat  silly.

  24. If you have Viking ancestors, then yes.

  25. Why not? My friends middle name is "Stokoe" after the Sunderland Soccer club Manager, and he's quite proud of this talking point. Just as long as you give your son a sensible first name, that is, not Spoonhead or Knifenose or something.

Hey - I've just found a Wiki entry for a Danish/English King called Sweyn Forkbeard. I'm convinced.

  26. not at all nick.

  27. No it really isn't appropriate.

  28. I think I'd hate you if you did that to me.

  29. Just think that he could be deciding one day if you need to go into a home.......

  30. Is this a family name?  If so, go for it.

However, be prepared for teasing and relentless problems with the middle name.

  31. Reminds me of a pirate or an Amish name
