It's in Asia.  How could someone not know where China is?

China -- which represents a quarter of the worlds population -- is West of Japan (a major trading competitor of the US).

It is West and North of North Korea (the "rogue" nation that is useful to denigrate  when  needed by the US).

It is East and South of the former USSR ( a former major political competitor of the US) and North of Vietnam ( a former source of major lost war humiliation for the US ) and various other nations that lack sufficient oil or ostensible threat to trouble the US.

Given its size, location and importance to world economies, markets, production, politics and environment, it is surprising more people aren't more aware of what it represents. It has the capacity and potential to relegate the US to a second string super-power status in these areas should it choose.

Don't be too ashamed by your lack of knowledge however.

Prior to entering office, President George W. Bush had only been abroad twice : once to Canada and once to Mexico. He couldn't place the location of several European or Asian nations (when asked by journalists) despite aspiring to an Office in which such knowledge is crucial.
