I want to own an animal shelter, but i dont know how to get started...does anybody have any opinions?

I know a lady who actually started an animal shelter. She just started taking in animals in need and caring for them and working to find them homes. Soon she came to the attention of a couple of organizations who started giving her some help with the funding, and she became well known. She got donations together and helped out with the animals at New Orleans after Katrina. Now she is very well known and respected in animal rescue and help circles and has a lot of credibility in the industry and can do about what she wants, but she started out doing what she wanted.

Of course she lived in Montana in a small town with room for animals and pretty relaxed laws. You do need facilities.

There are a few way's to get what you need. Having credibility in the industry to be able to gather donations helps a lot. It's hard to just start out without money if you don't have an area and resources to care for animals. You also need some knowledge in how to care for the animals you want to rescue.

If you don't have a lot of training and or money I would recommend working in an animal shelter near you and getting a grip on what is involved in the whole thing so you can at least know what it takes and how to do much of what is needed.

You could also be a lot more specific as to what kind of animals you want to help, what training and resources you have, and where you are and what your situation is. Answering your question right now requires very generalized information.
