  1. don,t know where you live but you need to either contact a ships painting firm or a proper ships chandlery like tcs or marinescene

personally i use a two part pack on my boat but i like gloss and not matt. brand name "international" do authentic boat paint.

right enough about the anti fouling but i take it about 2" above the waterline. international do a good one as well, £25 for a 2.5 ltr. tin

  2. PPG or BOTTOM PAINT.

  3. you have to go to a boat supply store to get the paint. House paint will not work.

  4. The best-looking boats that have been newly painted in our marina have all been painted with Awlgrip. Should be more than a coincidence.

    Good Luck!

  5. If the boat stays in the water all the time then you need to use a gel-coat. If you store the boat out of the water then you could use a good enamel paint.

I would use "Imron" made by DuPont. It is a polyurethane enamel and it is very durable. You could probably save some money and use an acrylic enamel but it won't last as long.

  6. You will need anti fouling paint below the water line if you don`t want "things" attaching themselves to the boat.

Why would you want to paint it matt black?

Radar will still be able to pick it up (joke)

  7. First, depends on the type of boat.  If you are trying to paint a ski boat or bass boat, you won't need anti-fouling paints since its not going to sit on the ocean for a significant period of time.

If you are doing a regular ski boat or bass boat, you will need to have "Gel-coat" applied with the proper color mixed in, not anti-fouling paint that is mainly used with sailboats, yachts, and ships.  Properly prepared and applied, the Gelcoat with black will be a permenant bond and hold to the original Gelcoat.  However, automotive paint and "some" marine paints will eventually degrade and possibly fail when the paint's lifetime has expired.  Ever seen what happens to paint that goes bad, it cracks up and peels.

If you want to make sure about this, you need to go to a boat fiberglass repair shop and ask them personally or give them a call.  They deal with this stuff regularly and should give you a straight up answer.
