My living room flows into my dining room. I plan to use the wet sponge and paint the living room in a very light green (ivy) but I would like to paint the dining room a different color to make it a separate distinct area. HELP!!

  1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a gray like "passive" (# 7064) would look terrific with light green.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  2. well then, how about deep forrest green for the dining room?  try just one or two walls seen from the living room first to see how much you like it.  also, you could paint just the top part of the walls forrest.  measure to where the back of your chairs come up to, then take that point, and go up with the deep forrest.  this is called a chair-rail.  where to two colors meet, you could get some narrow trim, or paint  a narrow stripe.  have fun!

  3. depends on if you want your dining area to be bright & cheerful (yellow, orange, purple) or traditional (beige, light brown or somewhere along that hue)

  4. Use a color wheel.  Locate the color that you are doing on the color wheel, then pick a color directly opposite.  That will be a complimentary color.  For instance, for a light green, the complimentary color would be in the purple and red fields.  Don't be afraid of dark hues.  They really make walls pop out when saturated with color.  Good luck!.
