Question:

I want to paint over stained wood trim with high gloss varnish on it . can i put a good gloss white water?

  1. You have to find a primer that will bond to your old varish first. talk to an old painter or paint store that's been around for awhile.........otherwise your paint will peel and chip easily....Once you have the good primer on go for it.....


  2. You definately have to sand first or the paint won't stick.  You may want to prime also.

  3. i would sand back using wet and dry paper with water to remove all traces of the gloss finish.... prime any bare wood

    give one maybe two coats of a water based undercoat to cover all traces of the stained colour,,, then apply two coats of white water based gloss,,, lighty sand between coats for an extra nice finish
