I want to paint wooden letters for the nursery?

Here is my question....I am not finding out the s*x of our baby until it's born so I was wondering if I should get the letters for both names we are going to choose from (total of only 9 letters) and paint both names as I would if the baby were here and just hold on to the one I don't use? Does that sound silly? I'm afraid once the baby is born I'm not going to have time to paint and hang the letters.

  1. I'd wait. Why waste money. Bubs will sleep heaps when first born, so you will have ample time to do it in :)

    Congrats :)

  2. yes new babies sleep alot so you'll have time to paint some letters....but why not just paint both names because maybe you'll use the name down the line for another child.

  3. Congrats on the pending birth.   Why not?  Wooden letters are inexpensive, and who knows...you might have the the other named baby in the future. Remember to use a lead free paint.

Sorry, I've got to ask.....Is the father Mr. Bean?

  4. You won't even have time to PEE much less paint. I never understood why people don't want to know the s*x. It saves you a lot of hoopla by preparing before the event.

  5. Good for you for not wanting to know. My husband and I didn't want to find out either so we are having the same problem. We plan on painting both names. The other name will just be put in storage until our next child. We are having so much fun with this...hope you are too.

    Congratulations and Good luck.

  6. you won't...maybe you can just buy the first initial of each name. That's all we have anyways.

PS What year is this??? Not g=finding out the gender until birth? Fred Flintstone would call that archaic and crazy.

  7. I think it is really neat for those that can stand to wait it out to find out the gender.  I may do this when I get pregnant.

I would purchase the letters and paint now (save the receipt) if you are totally sure on a boy name and a girl name.  Some people do change their minds once they see the baby.  I would wait to paint them until after baby is born and you know for sure the gender and name.  You can always have a family member help you paint them if you are tired or busy.  Babies I have heard do sleep a lot and painting those letters is not to time consuming.  Then you can return the letters and paint you don't use.

    Best wishes!!!

  8. if you are only talking 9 letters sure go ahead and do them now... no harm in having an extra name around later :)

  9. I would buy the letters now and then once your baby is born paint them.  Then you can return the ones you don't need and if you decide on a different name you can still get the correct letters.

  10. you can paint them now  just paint outside because of the fumes  i dont know when the baby is due but the weather might not be right

    congrads on the baby

  11. New babies sleep a lot. You will have time.

  12. I honestly would wait.  Sure you have the names picked out, but what if when the baby is born you decide on a completely different name?

All these people saying you wont have time must not have children . Yes you will have plenty of time.  Babies sleep 18-20 hours a day for the first couple of months.  You will have more then enough time trust me.  If you are nesting right now and feel like getting something done for the baby, why dont you put together a scrap book with all the ultrasound pictures or just premake the pages.  Reorganize the room, clean, make frozen meals, etc...  I would wait off on the room for now.

  13. Normally you prepick names for the baby but then when the baby comes out those names just don't fit. I would wait till the baby comes and then pick. In the beginning you will have plenty of time because the baby will sleep alot during the day. I am sure that every time the baby sleeps there will be one time when you are not sleeping to paint the letters. Good luck and congrats!
