I want to password protect a file while making it still readable?

  1. Why would making it have a password make it unreadable? A password is just to gain access to the file, it should NOT distort the file in any way.


  2. depends on the type of file but the simple method is to right click on the file, choose properties and then check off the "read only" option.

  3. Acrobat PDF's give you the option to password protect a file so that you choose to either open (view) it, print it or edit it.

    Bare in mind that editing a PDF is not the same as editing a Word document, etc. It refers to marking it up: ie side notes, comments, etc. which means the file is pretty much "locked" for anything else.
