Question:

I want to plan a simple wedding?

We are getting married March 28th, 2009. I already know we are having a church ceremony and short reception there for our church family. I want to also rent somewhere to have a bigger reception for all friends and family. I need a wedding checklist/organizer but all that I find are for fancy weddings. I'm a simple girl and we want a simple wedding. (I'm not going to wear a traditional wedding dress, probably something springy and light)

Can anyone suggest any websites or resources?

  1. I had a fairly simple wedding too.  I just used one of the ones you find on-line and marked out all the things that were not applicable to me.

  2. I use this website:  weddingchannel.com

It's a great site with a lot of tools and ideas.  There is a budget calculator and a wedding checklist.  If there is anything on the list that isn't going to be a part of your wedding, you can delete it off the list.  I love this site and it's really helpful!

    Congrats on getting married!

  3. www.theknot.com

    www.weddingcentral.com

    are my favorite sites.

This is what I did to help my friend plan her spring wedding.

A dear friend of mine and her husband pulled off a lovely garden wedding on 4/1/07. Yep that's right April Fools Day. This was also the anniversary of their first date. So they decided to plan a surprise garden wedding for their close family and a few friends. They had a VERY small budget, and a very short amount of time to pull it off. Her brother was going to be home from Iraq for a short period of time, and she wanted to get married while he was home. So they decided to plan the wedding around his leave time. They know Im VERY VERY VERY frugal with money, so I offered to help them plan their special day. Their budget was $1000.00, and we had 4 weeks to plan.

Venue: In the backyard of her rented house (Free)

Reception: Went to a local party event place and rented everything she wanted for $200.00. ($200.00). (A friend of mine used her employee discount).

Photographer: Hired the church photographer for a small fee ($100.00).

Officiant: Their pastor married them (free).

Food: A light brunch with grilled honey chicken, grilled salmon, asparagus, salad, croissant rolls, pasta salad, fruit salad, fruit punch, bottled water and cake for dessert. ( I used my membership at costco to get alot of this at cost.. she went with me though and she prepared the food). ($200.00)

Music: Irish/Celtic singers and bands played through out the ceremony and reception. (Free)

Flowers and Decor: The flowers she got from the beautiful flower garden she kept. (Free)

Attire: They both decided to get really frugal for this part. They went to Ross Dress 4 Less, and spent less then $50.00 for their outfits. She bought a lovely strapless blue dress for $15.00 and matching heels for $5.00. She already had the jewelry. He bought a pair of black slacks, belt, and matching blue shirt for $27.00. He had black shoes. I love that store. ($50.00)

Hair, make up and nails: I am a licensed hairstylist, and I did this for free. (As my gift to them)

Rings:  Since I worked at J.C. Penney, I used my employee discount to get them a really nice wedding rings for $170.00. ($170.00)

Invitations: She is a creative sort of gal. She made some lovely invitations out of recycled paper, that were absolutely lovely. I'm not sure how much she spent on the materials, but they were breath taking. Im going to guesstimate she spent no more then say $25.00.

    ($25.00)

    Marriage License: $25.00 (I think).

    Honeymoon: 3 days at a B&B in NC. ($175.00).

With taxes, fees, and other small items we spent about $980.00.

    I hope this helps. :)
