I want to plan a vacation to the greek island either Oia Santorini or to the island Skopelos?

I want to go to either of these locations but as for hotels I want to stay somewhere that i feel more like a resident than a tourist. Any suggestions? Also which airport would i fly into and how would I go about making the travel plans; isnt there a ferry i have to take to the inital island? any help is appreciated

Santorini, and particularly the village of Oia, is extremely picturesque, romatic, etc. Very much worth a few nights' stay. BUT, you're wanting to get away from the touristy aspects of it...not going to happen. It's probably the most touristy of the islands...good and bad. It will be hard to find "home-like" accomodations. I also suggest Naxos-you can find touristy stuff...and you will find beaches away from the crowds. But land in Athens first. Spend a day seeing the sights. Get away the next day on a ferry (Piraeus). And try to see two or three Aegean Islands. Come back to Athens and stay another day before your flight home. That's a good week's trip.

Here's a link to the ferries from Piraeus, but I would wait to book them when actually get to Piraeus (I love the Greeks, but organization is not their strongest trait..and things can change quickly).

You can go to all if you have a few days - island hopping

is very easy in Greece and does not require much planning.

Santorini is definetely the best one in terms of scenery

and exotic volcanic rock beaches. Oia is a party island.

Skopelos is quite and scenic. You should try to get a room, unfortunately it will not be easy or cheap to do that from

away. If you feel adventurous you can go to the travel agency

in the center of each capital city of each island and ask them

there... but be prepared to stay out or overpay for the first night in case nothing is available. You should go to Athens

and get on any boat (from the port Piraeus) that goes to

those islands.

YOU CAN GO  IN BEAUTIFULLY OHRID AND TO BE YOUR DESTINATION THIS SUMMER AND YOU CAN ALSO SWIM IN THE OLDEST LAKE IN THE WORLD-OHRID LAKE !!! AND OHRID GOT AIRPORT AO YOU CAN FLY WITH PLANE THERE!!! I HAVE BEEN TO THE GREEK ISLANDS MANY TIMES, THERE ARE FERRIES CONNECTING ALMOST EVERY POPULATED ISLAND. THEY MOSTLY LEAVE FROM THE PORT OF PIREAUS WHICH IS A TRAIN RIDE FROM ATHENS CITY CENTRE. IF YOU HAVE LOTS OF TIME, FIND THE FERRY COMPANY THAT CRUISES TO THE GROUP OF ISLANDS THAT YOUR INTERESTED IN. AFTER YOU STAY ON THERE ISLAND, THEN YOU CAN GO ISLAND HOPPING AND DISCOVER SO MANY GREAT PLACES. UNLESS YOUR GOING IN PEAK SEASON, THERE IS NO NEED TO MAKE ACCOMODATION BOOKINGS AS ALL THE LOCAL FAMILY HOTELIERS MEET EACH OF THE FERRIES AND TOTE FOR CUSTOMERS ON THE WHARF, CHECK OUT THEIR PHOTO ALBUMS AND BARGAIN THEIR PRICES FIRST. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE LOCATION YOU WANT TO GO FIRST. THE GREEK TOURIST AUTHORITY HAVE GREAT INFO BOOKLETS ON ALMOST EVERY PLACE.

Both great choices!Santorini is full of people,clubs ect and has an airport.Skopelos is more quiet, crystal waters and lot of 'green'(I mean plants ect) but has no airport!

Santorini I have heard so much about.  I have a great friend in Athens that told me that Santorini is one of the better islands.  I am not sure about the hotels.  I was going to take a boat or cruise around the island.  I also heard that Corfu and Rhodes is a good island to go to as well.  Again I have not been to any islands as much as I wanted to.  I go to see friends and relatives.  My wife and I want to take a cruise around the islands.  If you do that, you won't have to worry about hotels.  Hope this helps!
