I have gotten some of the stems of the lavender plant with the little purple flowers so i practically just dont have any roots. Will i be able to plant the stems(you know, with the flower part on top) in a glass vase with water in it...will it eventaully grow roots....and then will i be able to plant it? Or should i just plant the stems and see if it starts growing in the ground. I know I can buy the actual plant at a store but i just wanted to know if there is an alternative way other than buying the plant.

  1. No you will have to buy the plant with roots. The lavendar stems will just die although they work well as dried plants.

  2. I know that not all plants work this way, and I'm not sure whether lavender does or not.  But, your best bet would be to put the stems in a vase with water (and perhaps a little bit of plant food) and give them a few days to see what they do.  At worst you'll have some wet lavender. At best you'll have a new plant.

  3. i don't think so

  4. No, other than seed (which will take quite some time to establish) bare root stock is the only way. Once established, lavender will last for many years and can be divided, separated, and replanted.
