I'm 19 years old, just start play rugby this year. This is my first year. I had never play before. I wish to play Loose forward (flanker) .Anyone could help me make a rugby self-training plan? So I can do more self practice. I real want to spend more time to do more practice, so I could catch up my mates one day, my mates are very good. Oh, I live in New Zealand by the way. I got a lot of time at moment and I would like to training hard and spend more time for rugby. The plan should include fittness training. My email is sportsdog123@yahoo.com . Welcome to contact me. Thanks

  1. relaxing should make you a looser player

  2. I take it you're American??

Dude, if you're in NZ, go & join a rugby club. You'll get all the advice you need there.

  3. Want to catch up with New Zealanders in rugby? Man ur screwed!

Just kidding. Loose forwards are the fastest and skillfull of the forwards. They neither rely in strengh as much as the locks, nor raw power as props. they must be stronger than backs, obviously. I dont play as flanker but its my "second position".

Flankers must support props in scrums, so big arms are helpful, as well as large trapeziums and chest. Focus on these muscles. Leg strenght is required too, but not as much as with the first five forwards, but it would be a good idea to develop them.

The days you dont train with your team, go to the gym and lift weights for arms, chest, shoulders, back, legs... well pretty much everything! and on the weekends do cardio by yourself, because flankers must be very lean. After that, to become better, you must put a 100% of your dedication in the field, focusing in ball handling, tackling, and scrumming. Good luck!

  4. Playing a loose forward, well that's a tough one. Not really if you can get your self there. Rather than asking for a work plan over this it'd be really better and worthwhile if you can get a schedule from your team coach.
