I want to play the guitar but i dont knw which one to get. The electric or acoustic guitar?

I want to play things by Alexz johnson and coldplay.

Buy an acoustic first. It will build up the strength in your hands and they sound so good. Once you have learned it pretty well, then get an electric. Electrics need a lot more equipment, (pedals, amps) so the cost of having once can escalate pretty quickly. Good luck!

The Acoustic guitar is better to start off. Although, you have to hold the strings harder. My first guitar was an electric. I wish I bought the acoustic first.

The electric is much easier to play because the strings are a lot lighter however i'd advise you to get an acoustic guitar first as it will build up strength in your fingers and you'll find it much easier to go from an acoustic guitar to an electric, however if you buy an electric one first you'll probably find it frustrating to then play an acoustic as if you aren't used to the tough strings, playing it can be painful after a while. however i always liked the look and feel of an electric guitar and even though i started on an acoustic i never really play it anymore so it wasnt very beneficial in the long run. i think its down to personal preference really, but if you feel you'd like to learn both then definitely start on an acoustic. x

An acoustic. you'll develope your ear and your fingers alot better and alot quicker with an acoustic.

well electric is easier to play because the strings are closer to the neck so you don't have to push the strings as hard as you would with the acoustic.  there is a higher success rate with those that started with electric because they get frustrated less often. i started with electric. it doesn't really matter with the whole "strengthening hands thing" because after i had played the electric for about 3-4 months acoustic came with ease . soon you'll be able to play electric and acoustic interchangeably... and coldplay is mainly electric...
