i'm a middle hitter in michigan, a pretty smallish town but our volleyball program is very successful. we actually won regionals for the first time in school history this past year. anyway, i'm only 5'10 and i want to go to college to play but most team's middle hitters are at least 6 ft, so i'm short in that aspect. i have a 3.87 gpa and i'm going into pediatrics so i'm not dumb. also i'm on a club team that travels all over the u.s. to play, but i really want to go to a college near michigan. any advice?

p.s. i'm currently a junior and have been playing varsity volleyball (basketball and track) since my sophmore and part of my freshman year.

  1. First great to hear your playing club. But here the thing you need to be outside hitter at 5-10...most want 6 foot for middle...All so go to camps at schools you might want to go to....then talk to coachs when at the camp...So what club do you play for? All go to site called prepvolleyball.com great site to get info

  2. I wouldn't doubt that if your school is successful and you're on a National level club team that you are already getting noticed, especially with your GPA.

Know is the time for you to take the bull by the horns though:

Contact your local college coaches that you want to play for. Attend an off season camp on their campus. The work you do in these camps will make them sit up and notice if they haven't already.

Make a video, not on your own. Have your parents think about getting a production company to do it. This video needs to highlight you and show off your personality.  Send it to all college coaches and with a letter explaining your intentions to play in college while you enroll in a pediatrics program.

The most important part though is to attend camps and clinics on the campuses you want to attend. This will give you an idea of the quality of the program; the gym, the weight room, the current players, etc. You can also talk to coaches and they can get to know you. please take advantage of this and also don't count out some colleges out of state as well. You end up limiting yourself. If it's about leaving your friends and family, don't worry about friends or family, You will have more friends than you know what to do with any where you go and your current friends will go everywhere else too. Family will always be there.

    Best of Luck
