I want to plot GPS location on my pc.?

I am new at GPS programming. I want to write my own GPS program to plot location on my PC. What GPS signal transmitter to I need to purchase. I know there are already softwares our there but I want to write my own as a project. Any help in this will be much appreciated.

  1. You will need to become familiar with the NMEA protocol, which is the format GPS receivers use to transmit data to a PC.  Any GPS device that supports NMEA output could be used for your project.  GPSBabel, which is open-source, supports real-time tracking.  Its code could give you some ideas.
