I want to purchase a 12vdc power supply to try my boat GPS at home. Input voltage of GPS to be 10 to 35 VDC and 35 watts max at 10 vdc. It has a fuse of 7.5 amps on the power line. The capacity of the power supply must also be enough to power a sounder module consuming 25 watts, and the fuse on it's power line is 4 amps. This for a total of 11.5 amps. What capacity of power supply do I need, in amps or watts, and what kind of power supply ?

  1. You can buy a 13.8volt 7.5amp constant/ 10amp Peak Power supply  which should easily cover both units working in tandem, but you might find it cheaper if you go down to your local scrapyard and buy an old battery which will do the job as well.

A 10amp power supply will set you back about 25GBP for a well regulated one, and you do need a well regulated one.Make sure you get the cables connected correctly  (+ and -) or you'll be using the GPS and the sounder as a doorstop!

Google: Waters and Stanton for a supply
