I want to purchase an IPod but need more info

Question

my first mp3 player was on my cellphone and I love it. now i want to purchase an ipod but have a few questions before i purchase.

Do i HAVE to use itunes to download my music?

Is it required to have a subscription to itunes to get music?

Are there other safe sites that can be used to download music?

I was told that some sites require a subscription. if you download from the site and cancel the subscription, your downloaded music won't play anymore, it this true? whatever I purchase, i want to keep! is that possible?

If you have any other pertinent info that I can use, I would greatly appreciate it!

You need iTunes to put songs/videos onto your iPod but you can get your songs from any source.

iTunes is a free download. Download it at www.apple.com

I use Limewire to get music.

Limewire does not require a subscription and it is free.

you don't have to use iTunes to download music but have to use it to update ipod

you don't need to set up a subscription if you don't plan on buying music from the tunes store

Lime wire has worked pretty well

Some sites have a license that comes along with the music so there is a chance that canceling the subscription will void the song.

Ipods are a great purchase

first off i own an ipod and a zune. i hate the ipod! the zune is soo much better. same price and everything just bigger but it has more features! just a lil advice ;)

but to answer your questions:

1: you have to have itunes to do anything with your ipod, sync music, videos etc. with the ipod you wont get a disc to download to your computer, you get it offline. with the zune you get a disc and if you have interent (obviously) when you plug in your zune if theres an available upgrade then your zune font etc will change! you can also get radio, put pictures on there, make them your background, send you music etc! sorry i wasnt much help on the ipod part. i got it, didnt like my ipod and sold it lol.

No, you do not have to use iTunes to DOWNLOAD your music, but you do have to use it to put the music onto your iPod.

You can get music from a number of places, like limwire, frostwire, downloading torrents (good for full albums), and others.

you dont have to get music from itunes. you need to sign up at the site, but its free. there are safe ways to download music, not all are legal.  not true. it still plays on your ipod.
