I want to put a gfci in the place of a regular outlet; do I just wire it the same as the outlet was?

I ask because the gfci had a label on it blocking the top 2 connectors, do I just remove that and copy the same wiring as the outlet?

  1. E, the taped off part is for a 2nd outlet in the same room. Example being a bath room with 2 outlets on the same circuit. That would make both gfci circuits. Did you have 2 separate circuit on that outlet before? Go back and rethink this please.    TW

  2. Yes.  The top two that are blocked are for end circuits.  Your is probably inline.  the white and black wires are headed down stream, so to speak to the next outlet, which will now be controlled by your GFCI.  Make sure you attach the bare copper line to the green fastener on the side.
