  1. Under edit - preferences in itunes, you can set 'burning' to data cd or dvd.

However, if you have enough space on your hard drive, you don't need to back up itunes files at all. If you lose all your computer data, you will still have the files on your iPod, and you can access them by enabling viewing of hidden files in windows explorer, you just need to move them to a place on the hard disk (C drive if there's enough space), then import them into iTunes again. It's quite time-consuming, but less so than backing up and reinstalling from disks, and you will save money on disks. The only downside is that any videos you have will likely be renamed to files with names like 'JUYGK' and 'HGFDH', so you will have to rename any video files.
