It looks shiny now but is there anything I can do to keep it and what is best product to glue it down with? Thanks

Can I put polyurethane on it?

  1. You could do this but why?  Aluminum flashing is rather soft.  Its bend ability is one reason why it is used as flashing.  Almost anything will scratch it.  

    You might consider stainless steel instead.  I have seen this used for counter tops in trade shops, but it too will scratch with heavy use.  

    Either one you can attach with contact cement.  The water base kind is useless and the solvent type is dangerous, be careful.  

    Another alternative is to put a sheet down for the color and then put a piece of 1/4" min. glass down on top of it.  This will keep it down and keep it from scratching.  Clean up will also be much easier.  You can add edge stops if you want to but it might not be necessary.
