I want to put my 9 month old in her crib for the first time tonight

Her daddy is deployed, so she has slept with me since she was born, except I put her in her crib for naps. He is coming home in a month, and I want to start to transition her now. I am not sure what to do or expect since my two older children slept in a crib since they were born. What is the best way to do this? She is also getting weaned from nursing. How do I do this, and in which order?

  1. My advice is one thing at a time.  Both weaning and transitioning to falling asleep alone are BIG adjustments to a little baby.  Pick which is more important to you and work on that, allow some time in between her getting used to that one then start on the next adjustment. Putting them too close together could totally freak her out and cause neither to go well.

To transition my oldest to sleeping alone I put him in bed and sat on the floor quietly next to him until he fell asleep. I moved about a foot away every night until I was out in the hall and then the livingroom.  Also a good bedtime routine is key. When mine was that little his routine was dinner, bath, story, song and then a snuggle in bed before turning out the light.

    Good luck!

  2. Becca's back YEA! I put a toddler bed next to mine and kept moving it away. He was bigger.  I guess I failed at that one. My boy was breastfed in my bed then slept in it with us until I had to move him into a bed right next to mine. But you are doing right to move her now! :)

  3. I put the crib in my room, only because I am a baby and I can't not have her in my room. she is good though and she goes right to sleep in it.
