  1. Why not help kids here.  Americans seem to forget that we have starving children also.  Here are hundreds of charities:

    http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=US+Chil...

If you want to help children in other countries go to savethechildren.org

  2. sounds wonderful to do this., But doesnt charity begin at home? How about our homeless hungry uneducated children of the US? How about people losing their jobs due to economy? How about the food situation of the US? How about starting here first so we can have something to extend to other countries? People are able to give shouldnt they first begin to look in their back yard and see where to start?

    Good luck to you.

  3. Care International helps both women and children in developing countries, including Africa:

    http://www.care.org

You can make a restricted gift, saying you want it to go only towards CARE's work in Africa.

    There's also:

    Save the Children UK

    OxFam

    ActionAid

    NetAid

    MercyCorps

    Taking It Global

You could also look into sponsor-a-child programs. Any internet search will provide you a huge list of these kinds of initiatives, and a search of the resolved questions will show you what others on Yahoo have said about such.

And ignore people who try to tell you that you shouldn't help people outside of your own country. NO ONE can nor should tell you how to be philanthropic. You will hear these same people complain if you help animals instead of people, if you work for the environment instead of children, if you work for children in the criminal justice system instead of "good" kids, and on and on. If they spent more time doing philanthropic work themselves, instead of trying to dictate other people's philanthropic efforts, imagine what a better world this would be.
