I want to replace my blown 4.3gl (vortech) volvo penta engine

I want to purchase a automotive 4.3l engine, and covert it over to the marine aplacation. The blown engine is in a 2000 Four winns Horizon180. I understand the head gaskets & freeze plugs are different in a marine application. My question is are the block & heads the same as a 4.3l in say a 2000 vortech blazer. I know that the marine engine is carbureted and the blazer would be fuel injected. Thanks for any insight.

  1. I agree with Jim S , it's the best way to go!  Good Luck!

  2. Won't work.  The heads, the cam, and and some other minor stuff is different.  A SEFI engine will not produce torque at the right RPM.  Your best bet is to buy a marine short block, and transfer the externals.  The other option is to send your blown motor to a marine rebuilder, and get a running, "drop-in" motor returned.  A short block should cost around $2500, to rebuild your engine between $2500 and $5000.
