I want to restore my computer to its original factory settings but i do not have a recovery disk.?

I have an Compaq presario... sr1575.. xp... desktop pc... and ma father gave our computer to someone to repair, however, his " repairs" onkly temporaily remedied the situation. Then it worsened... AVG was filled with viruses. along it adware2007. These programs made the computer ridiculosly worse. e made a recovery disk but we never recieved it. I deleted some of them but he had also installed some image, desktp programs. And now ma start menu wont display unless i press it on the keyboard. And i am locked out by the " system admninistrator" but i am the system administrator. i cant use task manager and when i use the net to remedy the sitiationthe download pops up for 1 second then goes away.

Go back to your technician that made a recovery disk and get it.  You cannot do a restore to factory settings without it.  Or you could try to find a copy of XP on the net to purchase and install.

your going to have to use system restore, it will take care of it. It will probably be in your c drive programdata or just search it after clicking the start menu and restore your computer to a date that you didn't have these problems. It worked for me a couple of weeks ago when i had to many viruses and Trojans to count. Good Luck!!

If you have Vista...

Shut off your computer

When you turn it back on HOLD down the F10 key till the restore screen comes up.

Then restore option you want

Then you much purchase restore disks. After the reinstall, purchase a good security suite (not AVG). Windows is plagued with viruses, as you've found out...

Try using system restore.
