Question:

I want to restore xp to the default settings. how can this be done without the restore disks?

i dont have a copy of windows xp either. i have no cds for this computer it came with them but i dont have them. they are back home which is 3 hours away. only god knows if my mother even has them their it is untelling. what should I do? i need this computer lol.... it is acting stupid wont load certain web pages now it wont even load the system restore points.. and all of the restore points were acting the same way.. so I need to do a full system recovery HELP!! lol

  1. Nothing you can do without the CD's unless your system is a prebuilt like HP, Dell, etc in which case it might have a restore partition on the hard drive. Can't give you much more info since you didn't post what kind of computer you have.


  2. try your computer manufacturer's website, sometimes they'll offer the restore disks to purchase, but its going to cost you...I had a scratch on one of my XP recovery disks and found that I could buy them from HP for something like $30. What I ended up doing is asking one of the IT guys at work if he could burn me a copy of XP Home, he did and I installed it with my product key. It saved me $30.

  3. the first thing you should do is  put it in "safemode" try hitting "f8" or "f10" to put it in safemode. from there, you can use system restore points. hopes this helps.
