Everytime that I pet her she rolls over on her back like she wants me to rub her belly. I'm scared that she is going to bite me or dig her claws into me. Let me add that she is a very playful cat.

  1. my dog does the same thing but what u want to do is just rub her belly very softly and she shouldn't bite u

  2. My cat does this- and then bites me.  He likes to be brushed- but don't touch his belly, evevn if he asks for it.

  3. It's easy. Your cat probably wants you to rub her belly, some cats do like that. You should start from the middle of the chest and just pet her normally going down to the middle of the belly. If she likes this she'll start purring and rolling around.

On the other hand if she doesn't like being petted on the tummy, may I suggest you brush her back instead?

  4. A lot well meaning cat owners, when seeing their lovely cat lying on his/her back, presenting the tummy, they immediately think that it is a solicitation for a good belly rub. Unfortunately, many find out the hard way when the cat started to bite and scratch, and it leaves the owner with a bruised ego and dumbfounded at the same time.

Actually, when a cat roll over and shows you his/her belly, it is a sign of trust and not an invitation to come and touch. :) The abdomen area is a cat's most vulnerable part and they will guard it fiercely. They might present their belly to you to show you that you are a great person that present no harm and trust that you are nice. But, when you do approach and rub, you are no longer nice and the cat might see it as a very threatening gesture and lash out immediately.

So, the best way to avoid such confrontation is not to immediately extend your hand to touch the belly, but instead, go sit next to your cat and see how she likes it. If she is still at the same belly up position, slowly, make your way to her tummy. Watch out for the paw swipe and sharp teeth!! If she allows you to pet it, then you know that you have earned her trust enough to touch her belly.

  5. I have 2 who love the tummy rub: If you try to rub the tummy when they are playful, they will think you are playing and bite and scratch. If she is snuggly and you are petting her and she flops over, it's an invitation! Just try it out to start by moving your hand onto her belly - if she puts a foot against your hand stop or the claws will probably come out. Move slowly and follow her lead. Good luck tummy rubber!

  6. my cat HATES it when you touch his stomach (or paws), so I don't bother. but you might as well try! (try it first with oven mitts on or something)

  7. is this a serious question?  if your so concerned about it, you could have it de-clawed and its teeth removed.  Or you could wear an oven mitt.  Maybe a pair of steel guantlets would do.

  8. all three of my cats do this as well.. roll over and look at me all cute like they are half asleep, then as soon as i attempt to put my hand anywhere near their belly the b******s dig in their claws and try to chew my fingers off. I suggest giving it a few toys and NOT falling for it.
