The firstswitched has a white neutral and hot black and is connected to another switch by a jumper. The second switch runs a ceiling fan and has the black jumper and one black hooked to it. Can I hook an additional ceiling fan to the second switch?

  1. I believe so.  This would be a straight run, but your switch would control the power to both units.  Since most ceiling fans have their own built in controls on those strings that hang down, all you want to worry about is having adequate breaker or fusing to handle the amps they will take if both are on at the same time.  If they and other stuff wired into that curcuit exceed the amp capability of your breaker or fuse, you will trip the latter if you overload it.  Too much demand simply causes the service panel to shut down that circuit.  When that happens, you have to make a decision.  Is your service panel adequate to handle all your electrical needs and their total amps drawn, or is it just the circuit.  If the latter, you can add a larger breaker, but if you have fuses, adding a higher amp fuse could cause you some dangerous overload problems in the future.
