the government doesnt own telephone poles... what was that person thinking...

if the pole has only telephone wiring, or telephone and cable tv wiring, the RBOC telephone company (verizon in most areas) owns the pole..

if the pole has electricity on it, the electric company owns the pole...

the cable company doesnt own any poles...

I would suggest that you get permission if you plan on placing anything onto there pole, but you are more then likely going to be denied.

if this is NOT a street side pole, i would say go for it...

if this is a street side pole, i would suggest finding an alternitive method for running the wires from building to building..

yes. because it belongs to the telephone company or the government.

YES you need to get permission from the "owner" of the pole find out who owns it - however they most likely will NOT allow you to run anything to or from the pole.
