I commute on a 92 stock civic. I get around 37 mpg on average. And my insurance is very cheap. Lately, I have been thinking about buying a bike to save money on gas. Now, would it make sense to buy a bike? What kind of mpg can i get a from a bike? What bout insurance? Would it make sense to spend money on buying the bike or am i better off with just the car?

  1. what if it rains or snows

  2. My 750 only gets about 55 mpg, my 1300 gets less than 50. I will get wet if it rains and you can't get laid on a bike.

    Why bother?

  3. Doesn't matter what your car gets for mpg,    the bike makes sense if you are close enough and can commute safely that way.       You get that gas savings,  you get the maintenance savings,   less wear on your car means it lasts longer and you get the savings.

Best of all,  you get the health benefits  of regular excercise.   You get sick less,  you breathe better,   you live longer,   you have a longer and better s*x life.     You   win!

  4. Nope. Been there, done that, for 55 years. 37 M.P.G. is just fine. On a bike it is always too hot or too cold. Can't carry anything meaningful. You can get killed. Myself and every single male person in my family has been seriously injured on bicycle or motorcycle over the years.   Nurses call riders "organ doners".

Worries over where to park. Separate insurance to pay

There is a social problem. Alienation from your family. Spoken or not, the kids, and probably wife, will have it in mind that "there goes daddy, I am not part of that world"!

There are no gas savings. Bikes are not built for gas mileage , they are built for sport. Very few of the 250 to 500cc practical bikes are sold, or even floored on the dealerships. Poor re sale value. What sells is a stupid, overweight, vibrating piece of c**p Harley or a truely uncomfortable crotch rocket sport bike.

  5. i think a bike has like a 8 gallon take and gets like 100 miles to the gallon because it only has to drive one wheel and its a lot lighter then a car so i would go with the bike
