I want to satirize optimism. Any ideas? ASAP?

I need to write an essay on the quote "Idealism is what precedes experience; cynicism is what follows.- David T. Wolf

I can either agree or disagree with this quote. Techniquilly I agree, but I would like to attempt to saterize optimism instead of just plain out writing I agree with it.

PLEASE HELP! I just need some ideas or topics to get my mind flowinng, Im not asking you to write my essay, just help with ideas. Please. Thx.

I would go through history and give examples on how civilizations or societies believed or fell for optimism and it only got them destroyed.

eg. n**i Germany when they were in power  they were painting quiet an optimistic picture for Germany's future. Master of the world. And look where it got them. losers of a world war, in debt, lost land and pretty much the enemies of the world for a good 10 - 20 years after.

Well, if you want to READ a satire on optimism, I recommend Candide by Voltaire. It's 300 years old, but its still quite funny.
