Is there any way to find out about music in the pubs? Are there organized musical pub tours? Tell me about music in Ireland!

  1. We went to County Clare in western Ireland, which is supposed to be a major center for traditional Irish music.  I guess it was true -- in the tiny town where we stayed, there were incredible, mind-blowingly good bands at the local pubs every night!  Plus, since we kept away from the cities and stayed in little villages where the giant tour buses never came, we weren't crammed out by obnoxious tourists.  Instead, we drank our beer and tapped our toes next to locals.  It was a great experience, and I cannot recommend County Clare enough.

  2. below is a link to a site where some other guy kinda had the same goal as you, he went on the "Rock and Roll Stroll."

Info on that in the main tourist office that he talks about.

If you go on the Viking adventure (you cant miss these boats driving around the city, they will pass by where U2's studios are.

Hot Press is the Paper to buy with all the music news (its really good) go to their site. Link at bottom

If you want Irish Music, then go to the country, same again, look at hotpress,

The Cobblestones in smithfield is good for Irish Trad, theres always music on here, look up entertainment.ie for more listings.

If you want music here, you will find it and sometimes it finds you.

    Enjoy

  3. It depends on where in ireland you plan to travel. For traditional music and pub sessions there's only one place to go in Dublin. It's the Brasen Head on a Thursday night. but get there early as it will be thronged. You will come across lots of pub sessions in Galway any night of the week. Most of the larger towns will have trad sessions going on all year round though. The local tourist office will be able to help you when you arrive!!!

  4. Counties Clare and Galway and the west in general.  The north does not really appreciate traditional music.

towns like Doolin and Lisdoonvarna on the coast always have sessions.  Not sure how you can jump in, but if you get friendly with a local who knows the singer, you may get a shot to play.  I did that and sang with a guy in Galway.
