  1. The Perseid meteor shower will last for another 2-3 weeks, but it may not be the best choice since the moon is about full at the peak.

    The most important thing for you to do is get far away from Tokyo!  The lights from the city make it virtually impossible to see any but the brightest meteors.

    Find an astronomy club in the area and find out where they go for skygazing.  You'll want to get at least 50km away from all major cities for a good view.  A calendar of meteor showers for 2008 is in the link.


  2. Meteor showers actually last several days and cover most of the sky, so they are visible from anywhere whenever it's nighttime.


  3. We are approaching the Perseids meteor shower, peaking at around 4 to 6 a.m., American EDT on Aug. 13. That would be 6 to 8 a.m., Aug. 14 Tokyo time, but it may be too light that time of the morning there. I would suggest midnight to 4 a.m., Aug. 13.
